Abstract
The German law on the legal profession is under pressure to reform due to constitutional and european requirements related to the regulation of the freedom of occupational practice and due to new regulatory frameworks in other EU member states. The prohibition of alien ownership and restrictions on interprofessional collaborations and company lawyers are currently among the most contested issues in this field. Additionally the unbroken attractiveness of the bar to young professionals and the increasing number of lawyers receiving low compensations for their work pose undoubtedly a great threat to the reliable practice of the law. Furthermore, the question whether ethical guidelines are an adequate and effective instrument remains highly disputed.
This volume contains the most important contributions to the annual meetings of the Humboldt Center on the Legal Profession (Institut für Anwaltsrecht an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin) from 2007 to 2013.
