Mit-Mensch-Sein

The work of philosopher Ferdinand Ulrich (born 1931) has been widely neglected of lasting scientific attention (except through Hans Urs von Balthasar). And this even though he initially received impressive approval at the time of the first publication of his major work, "Homo abyssus - Das Wagnis der Seinsfrage" (1961). The speculative difficulty, the characteristic diction and the foundation in Christianity from which his thought (as philosophy!) arises all lead to his work falling back into the shadow of the usual discourse of his time. This book sets out to examine Ulrich's founding philosophical experience and make his "metaphysics of Being and gift" accessible for a wider public.
A special concern of this book is to show how Ulrich's philosophy is indeed fruitful for many contemporary positions in philosophy (Derrida, Habermas). It also offers essential insights for psychology and theology.
