Produktbeschreibung

This book seeks to deepen empirical understandings of herder–farmer conflicts in Africa from the perspective of peacebuilding. Thus, the focus of the book is on the manifestations, causes, consequences and management of these conflicts (responses) by both state and non-state actors and lessons for sustainable peacebuilding. By adopting a comparative approach spanning five countries (Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Nigeria, Sudan and Togo), our study seeks not only to fill the gap, but also expand the frontier of knowledge on the subject, exploring important cross-cutting issues such as human rights, rule of law, gender and youth. The interconnections between these conflicts and security, safety and development at all levels underscore the urgency and pertinence of this study. J. Shola Omotola, Ph.D. (Editor) holder of the 2023 Claude Ake Visiting Chair at the Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) and the Department of Peace and Conflict Research (DPCR), Uppsala University, Sweden, is Professor of Political Science at the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Nigeria and Sabbatical Professor, office of the Director General, National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDs), National Assembly, Abuja, Nigeria (2024-2025). In 2017, he was Visiting Professor at the Bayreuth Graduate School of African Studies (BIGSAS), University of Bayreuth, Germany. He is Winner of the Tertiary Education Trust Funds (TETFUND) Institutional Based Research Grant, Nigeria’s Flagship Research Funder, to study Fake News and Nigeria’s 2019 elections (2019–2020). His research interests are in Comparative African Governance and Politics, notably elections and democratisation studies. He has co-authored and/or co-edited six books, including The Political Economy of Kidnapping and Insecurity in Nigeria: Beyond News and Rumours (Springer Nature, 2024) and Nigeria’s 2015 General Elections: Continuity and Change in Electoral Democracy (UK: Palgrave Macmillan, 2017).
