Abstract
This interdisciplinary volume analyses the potential of, the challenges posed by and the obstacles to sustainable consumption. It discusses institutional factors, policy instruments and civil society initiatives that aim to promote sustainable consumption. The contributions in the book assess policy innovations and regulatory instruments, observe current institutional changes in the field of sustainable consumption and critically reflect on the emergence of new actors and initiatives. The volume initiates a dialogue between the multiple disciplines involved in sustainable consumption research. It bridges economic, sociological, political, legal, philosophical, pedagogical and natural sciences perspectives on core problems and fundamental conflicts to encourage the development towards more sustainable patterns of consumption. This volume’s interdisciplinary nature provides insights beyond the boundaries of individual disciplines to enable cooperation on research into sustainable consumption.
