What does it take to assess pedagogical situations in a professional manner? How can this ability be refined? What potential lies in video cases and digital learning environments? The author addresses the conditions under which the video case analysis of teaching/learning situations promotes the professionalisation of the educators involved. Empirical data from scientific research supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG) contributes to the theoretical framework of the paper. These results help the reader understand how to improve the ability to professionally assess teaching/learning situations quickly, sustainably, and precisely. Video case analysis turns out to be a suitable approach to the development of teaching skills.
