Posnaturalezas poéticas

This book provides the first study on the cultural and political significance of the postnatural turn in Latin American poetry from the 1970s to 2020. The postnatural refers to material objects and views defying the nature-culture division under the current climate crisis. Ranging from ecopoetry in the 70s to recent biopoems, the volume tells the story of how Latin American poetic experimentation constitutes an environmental epistemology that enacts human-nonhuman relations amidst colonial-extractivist violence. The first part, "Assemblages", explores nature-capital interconnections (Jason Moore) in waste poems (Zurita, Samoilovich, Bicecci, Acosta). The second part, "Metamorphosis", explores "transcorporeal" (Stacy Alaimo) intimacies in ethnopoems (Vicuña, Rupailaf, Calderón, Galeano). The third part, "Animisms", studies "entranced" (Jens Andermann) territories in place poetry (Kac, Amara, Baptista, the collective poem Wetlands). Poetic postnatures lends new knowledge to Latin American environmental humanities and cultural studies by highlighting strange and multiple natures in poetry, which emerge as an object and a critical laboratory for ecological thinking about the present and the possible futures of a devastated planet.
