Abstract
In today’s financial market conditions, co-operative banks have to compete with plenty of domestic and foreign competitors. Exploiting their capabilities systematically due to legal structure, therefore, becomes a crucial factor of success for the institutes. Based on their unique corporate governance model, promotion of members’ interests can be identified as an essential core competence and turned into a permanent competitive advantage of co-operative banks, when implemented appropriately. Following the modern value based management approach, the illustrated financial member value management constitutes a strategic concept that is applicable for them to achieve sustainable competitive differentiation and lasting results. High methodological benefits can arise especially in the context of corporate management, corporate valuation and corporate reporting.
